Despite being formed in 2021, Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalists Brendan and Michael Etherington have already managed to craft a unique and infectious sound that has impressed tastemakers and fans alike. They decided to name the project Square Dance Caller, making a nod to their late grandfather's tenure in the role. Thickening the band’s sound is proud Gumbaynggirr man Mat Hooler on keys and James Manning on bass. Live, the band have certainly impressed with their huge sound.

Their latest single "Somebody Like You" fully showcases their signature sound. The track has a dynamic instrumental that creates a colourful backing. On top, vocals come drenched in indie-rock sensibilities and work hand in glove with well-penned lyrics.

Speaking about the single, Brendan says: “I think we have all had somebody in our lives either romantically, or platonically, who's a bit older or more mature and who seems so cool and confident. We either lusted after them or wished we had them in our corner teaching us all their moves. That's what this song is all about.”

With an LP on the horizon, we cannot wait to see where they'll take this.
