Wasting no time after the release of their single ‘Castor’ in May, Parallama make a striking return to the limelight with the release of ‘Runner’. Parallama comes from the creative mind of multi-instrumentalist Mike Strickland. After spending his time at university playing violin in a variety of bands, he began to develop his artistry, writing and recording his own songs in his home studio. Now, after a dynamic debut in 2024 with Parallama’s debut album ‘Resolution’, they are back with another boundary-pushing single and more music on the way.
Moving through the airwaves with their signature indie-tinged grooves, ‘Runner’ effortlessly blends magnetic hooks with an instrumental heavily inspired by funk. The single seamlessly fuses together genres, featuring elements from new wave to krautrock, showcasing the group's continually evolving artistic vision.
Speaking on the writing process of ‘Runner’, Mick shares, “This song features an electric violin solo, but listeners will most likely think it is a distorted electric guitar. I collaborated with my friend Matt Levy, who added rhythm guitar, added a juicy Robert Fripp-style guitar solo that emerges as the perfect response to the electric violin part, and helped with some production guidance.”
