Hailing from Adelaide, Jen Lush brings together emotive vocals and poetic lyricism, often written by acclaimed poets, through a folk rock glow. Her previous album ‘Let Loose The Beating Birds’ comments on motherhood, suburban life and the broader landscape of the modern era. This album also led to her wining the ARBA Roots Album of the Year for 2021.
Jen’s latest single ‘Icon - song 1’ comes ahead of her next album ‘Hum Of The Mettle’. With this track, Jen creates a celestial landscape, the hum of a synth pad is paired with a gentle acoustic guitar to outline the chords. Gradually, the song expands into more layers, electric guitars and keyboards flow around your ears. It’s a truly enchanting single.
On the new release, Jen shares, “My second single and video release ‘Icon – song 1’ has arrived directly from a poem by Maria Zajkowski, award-winning poet, lyricist and librettist based in Melbourne, from her most recent book of poetry, Icon. Of this book she writes “My father, Eugienuisz Zajkowski, had a hard, miraculous and normal life. He never intended to be an icon. This collection preserves some of what I lost to his Alzheimer’s. And then, what I lost when he died.”
‘Hum Of The Mettle’ was written around contemporary Australian poetry and was commissioned by the Denmark Festival of Voice. Jen’s use of these mediums provides an interesting layer to the music, with her passion bringing the words to life. We wait in anticipation for its release in August this year.
